AUP-CES Special Children & Persons With Disability Orientation

By Arianne S. Alvarez | Jero Adan Reviewed and Edited by Ms. Rolyn Cadalig

There is more joy in making others smile. Last August 28,2015. Community Extension Services Center (CESC) together with Psychology students of Adventist University of the Philippines (AUP) accomplished a mission of reaching out and helping the exceptional children of Buklod Bahayan Subdivision, Barangay Tartaria, Silang Cavite. Truly, there is more blessing when you let other people received the experience of God’s love reaching out to them with value and care.

The faculty, staff, and students picture taking while eating their refreshment.

Mrs. Rhoda Bautista, the Department of Social Welfare and Development {DSWD) officer gave her informative talk about the rights and privileges of a Person With Disability (PWD). According to her the government is very willing to assist and give educational allowance to those who are capable to study and to improve their present condition in life. Parents participated in the discussion to clear issues on how the government be helping them.

Three faculties from AUP supported this event: namely Mrs. Eunice Carpizo--Director of Community Extension Services Center (CESC), Mrs. Rolyn A. Cadalig--Assistant Director of CES Center, and Mrs. Eva Castillo--Department Chair of Psychology Department.

Students made themselves available in nurturing the community. A foreign master's student joined the group of psychology students to render the song, “May nagmamahal sa iyo”, as an inspirational song for the Special Children and for their love ones.

A simple prayer, a touch, a tap, a hug, and a short encouraging words maybe not enough to lighten their burdens but these simple things could make a big impact within their lives. One of the parent told me:
“Arianne, pag pray mo kami lagi ha!”

Such simple things would sum up to their minds that there are people who are willing to serve them that they might know that truly Jesus cares.

The breakdown of the participants are as follow:
  • Psychology teachers  2
  • Psychology students 14
  • CES staff                  3
  • Members of Making Connections and parents 10
  • Brgy. PWD Staff       5

Total Attendance:          34
